Airwolf
Action games come in many themes, offering a wide variety of topics to choose from. In this case, I was inclined to review games featuring helicopters. You see, when I was a kid there was this pretty awesome TV show called Airwolf. I don’t remember much about it; in fact, I don’t think I remember anything other than the helicopter and Ernest Borgnine’s name, for some reason (maybe there was a certain ring to it, I don’t know). However, I do recall the vague childhood excitement at hearing the first notes of the musical theme, and that is enough to make me have high expectations regarding these flash games.
The first game I tried was Heli Attack 3 and, let me tell you, it was a big, big disappointment. Well, I will rephrase it: the game is pretty awesome, but I was really really disappointed to see that there were no helicopters. In this game you control a soldier that must complete at least five different levels. You have plenty of weapons and tools to do so, and even a training level in which indications abound so that you can learn properly and thus maximize your resources. Everything to secure success, but still no choppers in sight, no sir.
Heli Bomb Defuser was a lot more basic, as a game, and graphics are a lot simpler. But guess what? Yes, there is a helicopter, and you can control it. There are several levels, but a single objective: defusing the bomb. In order to do so, you must pick the bomb up and take it to a safe place. That wouldn’t be so risky if each level didn’t add new walls for us to crash against!

Heli Combat was a little closer to what I expected. This is some sort of platform game, and here you control a quite neat helicopter. Enemies are limitless, and they come both from land and air, which means you have to gain good control of your chopper. Good news is you have three different kinds of weapons, to ensure you are not defenseless against the trucks and various aircrafts aiming to take your down. Controls are in the keyboard, which means you have good stability but less mobility. Try and not get trapped: evasive actions can be a pain in the butt.
However, the best was yet to come. If you don’t believe me, try and play Heli Strike. You have different missions to complete, all of them both challenging and exciting. The chopper is top notch, and the fact that you control it with your mouse makes is actually a good thing: you gain freedom to move and avoid getting hit by enemy fire, which, quite frankly, comes from everywhere. Graphics are excellent, enemies are relentless… I would dare say the game is flawless.
See? Four options worthy of Stringfellow Hawke!
