Shooting Stars
Our flavor of the day is Shooting Games, and, as usual, the challenge lies in not getting hooked on any of the reviewed games. The task is particularly difficult because a) there are few things better than shooting at stuff in a digital environment, and b) is this special case each game has one or more really appealing features.
Artillery Tower, for example, had me from the beginning, what with being a stick game (I am seconds away from adding a smiley face). However, that is not all: it is also a “hold your post” kind of game, in which you control a lone stickman who is supposed to defend its tower from everything and everyone. Attacks come in waves, with men who try to bring the tower down by – get this – kicking it, like some kind of Pai Mei apprentice. Once the wave is over, there is a small period of time in which you can visit the shop and buy more weapons, ammunition, and even air strikes!
Ratminator: The Mice Menace works under the same premise: hold your post, soldier. Except that, in this case, you are no stickman: you are an elephant. And, of course, everybody has heard about how elephant are scared of mice (or are they?) – no, I haven’t watched Dumbo one too many times – so it is only natural that you must defend yourself from them. The number of enemies is unlimited; lucky for you, in this version of the game you can also shop for more weapons and upgrades… provided you survive the whole day.

Enigmata is completely different in every sense of the word – we are talking about a space adventure here. You can choose among three space ships and then access the tutorial if you need help or guidance. The premise is simple: go from point A to point B without getting killed and eliminating as many enemy ships as possible. If you get to complete the level, you can repair your armor, buy new parts and upgrade your ship, get more ammo and recharge your shield. Believe me, you are going to need all this!
And finally, we have Presidential Street Fight 2008 which, I am not afraid to admit, is the game that caught my attention the first time I went into the Shooting Games section. It might be the fact that these are no characters, but well-known politicians; the fact remains, I got hooked. You can choose between Barack Obama and John McCain; both are equipped with the same weapon, and are under the same conditions. From then on, it’s all history: the one with better aim will win the fight. Let’s just hope that it is you, whoever you may be!

As you can see, the only problem with these games is that once you play them, you might not want to do anything else!
